Why Blog

I have heard people say that webmasters should not blog for SEO purposes. Okay, well my life doesn’t revolve solely around SEO. These same people go on to say that you should update your website regularly. Okay, just so we’re clear, you want me to update my website regularly but not blog? Sounds like someone is speaking out of both sides of their mouth.

Blog for therapeutic reasons!

I will never blog for SEO purposes. A blog or written content is not something that can be forced unless you’re a talented writer or you’re being paid to write. I’m here to tell you if I want to blog it’s because I feel like I have something to say. Writing regardless of whether you call it blogging or not is actually a great exercise to get ideas out of your head, discharge negative emotions or express the deepest gratitude. Profanity laden tirades leave me feeling great. Rants such as this are great therapy and significantly aid in moving forward and past whatever obstacle or inconvenience you wrote about.

Doesn’t that sound amazingly simple? Writing to let go of angry and upsetting feelings! It beats the alternative of punching people in the face which is usually frowned upon by local laws.

Blogging is a great way to acknowledge unique business occurrences. Everyone should already have a frequently asked questions and answers page but what about new questions that arise. A situation that makes you ask questions you haven’t previously thought of.

You can blog about the news, your own personal life and experiences or just rant about random topics. I believe blogs are great because it’s a place that you can share off the wall content. Some people may say that such and such doesn’t belong on this specific website. Well that’s the greatest thing about having your own website, you can do whatever you want.

You would probably be wise to use some level of restraint or discretion when it comes to disparaging other people or businesses. I know we have freedom of speech and expression in these United States but what you write on your personal or business blog may have adverse consequences. Consider using free, publicly available web properties if you really want to get nasty.

You were born to be creative! Maybe it’s time to start embracing that side of yourself in the form of a blog, written content, podcast, vlog or whatever you choose to call your form of creative expression.
